The Bolshoi Ballet Academy has been preparing principal dancers for the stage since 1773. Famous for its pedagogy, The Academy has an especially strong international reputation for providing the very best training in classical technique, artistic expression, musicality, partnering and men’s technique.

Two students will be chosen from the Summer Intensive to particpate in a Gala Performance on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow!

The Russian American Foundation and Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet Academy are proud to present the 2nd Annual New York Summer Intensive for pre-professional dancers of all levels. The five-week Intensive session will be available from June 30 – August 1, 2008.  A 3 week sesssion is also available from June 30-July 18, or applicants may enroll on a weekly basis. The program considers participation of female and male students. Duets are encouraged to apply.  The intenstive will run at two locations concurrently. Students may either study at a full-time camp program at Westover School in Middlebury, CT or in a day time only program at the brand new Manhattan Movement and Arts Center. Housing is available upon request for both locations.

 

The intensive training sessions are based on the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet methods and the pedagogy is supervised by the Dean of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Marina Leonova. Master Teachers will come exclusively from Moscow to instruct students in Classical Ballet, Repertoire, Pointe, Variations, Partnering, Character Dance and Historical Dance. 

 

At the conclusion of the workshop, interested students will have priority to audition for enrollment in the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow!!

 

 

                      

 

 

AGE GROUPS

 

Beginner Level: Ages 6-9, 2 hours daily, no audtion required

 

Elementary Level: Ages 8-11, 4 hours daily

 

Intermediate Level: Ages 11-15, 5 hours daily

 

Advanced Level: Ages 15 and older, 6 hours daily

 

**An academic hour is 45 minutes**

 

Classes will be conducted in groups, organized according to the student's skill level as demonstrated on their audition tape.  At the end of the training program all of the students and teachers-in-training will undergo final interviews with the Master Teachers, who will provide the students with an assessment of their progress and advice for furthering their training. Students will also have priority to audition for enrollment in the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow. A final gala performance will give students enrolled in the five-week session the opportunity to showcase their repertoire for invited guests and professional ballet teachers. Three-week sessions will conclude with an open-class.
