The Russian American Foundation (formerly Russian American Arts Foundation) was founded in 1997 to encourage interest in and understanding of Russian heritage among all communities in the US, as well as to promote reciprocate interest in American heritage among global communities of the former Soviet Union. Over the years RAF's mission and activities expanded to additionally incorporate:

Promoting economic and social development, progress and well being within the Russian speaking community in the New York area and the greater United States.
- Promoting a better understanding and acceptance of the Russian speaking community among the various other communities of the New York area and the greater United States.
- Engaging in activities which assist the Russian speaking community of the New York area and the greater United States in preserving their heritage, culture and language.
Today, the goal of RAF's activities and programming is to facilitate a better understanding of the global Russian speaking community and to assist the New York Russian speaking community in achieving a better standard of life while preserving ties to its heritage. RAF's activities are grouped under two divisions- The Russian American Arts Foundation and The Russian American Health Coalition.

TOGETHER IN NY COMMUNITY FESTIVAL
Annual Community Festival will demonstrate the tremendous diversity of Russian culture and will provide a celebratory environment during which visitors will enjoy performances, crafts, artists, ethnic foods, as well as learn about various businesses and organizations interested in servicing the community. Community Festival will be filled with endless fun, free carnival attractions for children, performances, and mouthwatering foods drawing public of all ages and ethnicity. COMMUNITY HEALTH & SPORTS FAIR
Annual Health Fair provides the community with a well-rounded exposure of the many health options available for individuals of all ages in this important, health oriented community. Traditional and complimentary health care providers, as well as fitness, senior services, nutrition and wellness counselors are invited to be on-hand to educate the public and provide information on important health-related issues. This is an outstanding opportunity for health care providers to showcase their services and to meet face to face with the community. There will be providers of free services on site (PSA testing, blood pressure testing, etc.) The event provides a full day of education and entertainment. Community sports schools and athletic leagues will celebrate Health & Sports Fair by full day of performances and showcases.
